Message for Ex Boys who served in 18 (Amph) Sqn/Coy. As you are aware, Mike Ross has kindly consented to a reunion of Ex Boys wishing to attend it. I know that anumber of us at 18 (Amph) Sqn were Ex Boys and will be attending the reunion anyway. However, I have been approached by a number of ex boys who were not members of 18 (Amph). A numbwer of them have already booked into the hotel on the Thurs evening. The manager has indicated that a maximun of about 50 will fit into the dining room on offer. Therefore, may I ask for those who intend to sit down to dinner on Thurs with the rest of the ex boys to let me know by e mail or phone (contained in the staff list) in order that we can keep a record of numbers. This would assist Mike, the manager of the hotel and myself to get it right on the night. Stay well you DUKW lads. See you in October. Tiny

On your behalf I have invited him and his partner to dinner on the Saturday night as our guests. He is due a posting from his command so he may not be able to accept. Also today the Barnstaple Hotel informed me that 16 rooms have been booked already for our reunion. This is very encouraging because I would love to have at least 100+ plus to the reunion. On the plaque information I have now received 11 orders which will be sent directly to the homes of people who have ordered. Ozzy, I shall retain yours of course. From Tiny Cookman to anyone wo can help me with a ittle problem. I need to geth hold of a metal die cast replica of a DUKW. If anyone knows where I can get hold of one or, indeed, if you know of anyone who has one It would be very much appreciated. If someone has one and is prepared to let me borrow it for about three months I promise to reimburse all postage or carriage costs. I cannot give a reason for this request on line, but will explain myself if you care to phone me. The reason will be made apparent later in the year. All the very best for Xmas and the new year. Stay safe you DUKW lads. See you all next year God willing.
Sorry, there was one or two words left out in the last post and I'm not sure how or why it has happened. The words missing are: like, as in if anyone would like a brace. The other being: Myself after Gillian. & kind regards to all the DUKW lads.
Hi All. Had a phone call from my old traveler mate Ossy Osbourne last night, he tells me he is doing very well but is having trouble getting on the site, web site that is, I know he's been kicked off a few other sites but it's this one he was on about. Unfortunately, Ossy has had to have his little companion put down but other than that he said that he is o.k. He wishes everyone a Happy Christmas & a prosperous new year and is looking forwardto seeing all at the next reunion. Last time Ossy was here, he sold me a sprig of lucky heather, the next day I fell over and broke my arm in several places, he also gave me a rabbits foot for good luck, I thought, that was very nice of him till I caught Myxomatosis. He tells me that the willow flowers are selling very well now, he also thinks he may have one or two pheasants oven ready for Christmas if anyone would a brace, it all depends on the place he that he camps near the woods. Enough frivolity, Happy Christmas to one and all from Gillian
A Merry Chrismas & a Happy & Health New Year to all DUKW boys. Hope to see you in Oct 2012
For Pete Osbourne. Peter, I want to speak with you fairly urgently and have sent you a couple of e mails but with no reply. I don't have a mobile number for you so I am trying through the Guestbook. It may be of interest to your brother who was the RSM of 8 Regt. Give me a ring if you pick this up or e mail me mate.# Tiny
Great to read the Guest Book while away on our holiday. Joyce and I would like to wish you all a Nadolig Llawen & a Blwyddn Newydd Dda. Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year. Be kind, love one another, be happy and stay well you DUKW Lads.
Hiya all. Tiny, that's a great Idea and I for one would love to be there to see all my buddies from that era, also the last supper, unfortunately, I will be in England from June to July and another trip over in October would be stretching the purse a bit thin, if I don't make it, I hope its as good a time as I had last reunion and that all enjoy the Get together, great memories. All the best for Christmas and have a great new year. Regards to all. Foxy
I think the message board is quiet because little seems to get through, certainly my messges of late have not. Happy Christmas and a lucky new year to all. I am an Ex-Bordon Junior Leader too, add my name to the aditional re-union list please. Go easy all you Biker Boys!

Reunion of Ex Boys and J.Leaders from the late 50s and early 60s who served at Fremington. I have been approached by Ken Maher and other non 18 Sqn ex boys with a view of setting up an informal reunion of those who served at Bordon or Taunton As you are aware, 18 Amph Sqn and Air Despatch were the two main postings after Yeovil. So we had a high incidence of boys. I have spoken to Mike Ross and he has kindly agreed that he would have no objection if we hold it on the Thursday before our last supper. Mike also invited those non 18 Sqn lads to stay on and join our do over the weekend. Anyone wanting more information, please contact me through the forum or by e mail. This may be our last chance lads.
Ray Sayle, I received your cheque yesterday. Many thanks. This forum seems very quite of late, has everyone gone to ground? or sold their PCs? There must be quite a lot out there somewhere, as the ministary recons that theres several gone missing, Ossy my old mate have you got any going cheap? Ha Ha Ha. Take care you DUKW lads regards to all.
John Micheal, I seen your message of 17.11.11 and I was quite surprised as I sent a cheque for the full amount on the 7th Oct. My daughter has confirmed that it has not cleared from her account up to 15.11.11, so she will cancel it and will give me another which Iwill send recorded delivery on monday 21st. I have tried to contact you and have left messages on your answerphone. I do not know what happened, But I do apolagise for the inconvenience. I would like my Condolances passed on to Gordon Asbury's Family. I am looking forward to meeting everyone again in 11 months time [this time thing seems to go faster than ever]. Best wishes to all DUKW boys and have very Happy Christmas and a healthy and prosperous New Year.
I am the eldest son of 22200955 Robert Alfred Crampton who served on Christmas island during Operation Grapple and then was at 10 Port Squadron (Singapore) for the wind down in 1968. My Dad passed away 15 years ago and it would be great to contact anyone who served with him. Fremington played an important part in his life for reasons I am aware of and I was at the camp yesterday. Grateful for any contact. Kind Regards, Bob Crampton (jnr)
Well we will see if I can leave a message today, so far I have been unlucky and unable to post. Ray Sayle can you please contact me re your outstanding account, as I have not heard anything from you and I have tried to contact you by phone. Ossy my old mate have you been flogging the pegs and willow flowers? if you have any lucky heather, I could sure use some at the moment. Take care you DUKW lads. Kind regards John.
I read this news while we are away in Florida. What a sock Jyce and I had while reading the Guestbook. Thank you Danny for adding this sad information to our Guestbook. He will be sadley missed at our next reunion which he was to attend if he had been well enough to travel. RIP DUKW MAN. We will all meet again when we take that lonely road. Takecare and stay well you DUKW men, see you all next October.
Can I add my sentiments along with Dan, and pass my condolences to all of Gordon,s family, I shall not forget his attendance at last years reunion, which to me speaks volumes, in how important they are. Old Soldiers Never Die They Just Fade Away RIP, Ossy.
Re our Chelsea Pensioner William Gordon Asbury it is with great sadness that I have been informed that he passed away on 12 September 2011. RIP Gordon.
Re Dave Peacock. I was with 116 when the tragic accident happened. I have a picture of Dave posing with what I believe was a successer to the DUKW known as P8. Some time back, a couple of years or so, I sent some photos from the early 60s but could not find them published. If you can tell me how, I will upload the P* and Dave Peacock. Regards David Lee ex REME 116
Hi Geordie, I seem to have encountered problems trying to post on the site, I spent a long while composing several messages, without success, hopefully this one might come through okay, though I,ve done nothing different, whatever old pal, I,m looking forward to next years Reunion, when we can all meet up again, just to let everyone know, I,m well and fine on my travels, regards to all, Ossy, The Old Age Traveller.

I hope that i am able to attend in fact i am looking forward to it.Best wishes to all who served with 116/18coy/sqdn. I have recoverd well from my problems earlier in the year. all the best Ray.
Hi Taff lad. Put me and Gillian down to attend, I am unable to say whether we will arrive on Thursday or Friday yet. I hope that the Last Supper Mk1 will be as successfull as the Final Fling was. We are all very gratefull for your arranging and organising these events, I know how difficult it can be with organising the motorbiking events. Thanks Mike. All the best DUKW lads
INFORMTION: The Final Fling visit went extremely well and all who attend the day I am sure enjoyed it immensely. Doing a little home in preparation for the “Last Supper” there is a strong possibility that during the “Last Supper” I shall be able to re-run the same visit again on the Friday 19th October 2012. Because Fremington Camp is well on its way in becoming a housing estate a visit to the old location is out of the question. You will of course be able to have a look in providing the roads are laid. So at the moment I am looking at the following. Arrive Thursday 18th October 2012, Visit on the 19th October 2012, Golf for the budding Darren Clarke’s, (I met him) on the Saturday with the dinner on the Saturday night, disperse on the Sunday morning. I would appreciate comments and maybe your attendance for this weekend. I am able to obtain ties and I shall take orders in January 2012. (Not before please). So, stay well you DUKW Lads we will be meeting again in October 2012.
Isee that Iam not the only one to have problems with the BT over 18 Coy RASCit has sorted its self out now all the best DUKW lads see you all in2012
Hi Ray. I have put your order in this morning for the three Polo's & two sweat shirts, the price now is polo's £7-25 each & sweat shirts are £8-00 each. As soon as I get them I will send them out to you & let you know the total including postage & packing. Has anyone any idea where Ossie is now, he must be making a fortune with them clothes pegs, silk ribbon & willow flowers? All the best to you DUKW lads.
Good to see that Richard Fox has found the site again, I hve also had some problems but I think it is my computer I kept getting A BT website advert, but I have it sorted now. John Micheal I would like 3 polos 2 sweatshirts xtra large dark blue if poss. but not too worried about the colour. Has anybody got any thoughts on the David Peacock situation? I hesitated on contacted the family due to the facts as I knew them. Stay well all you Amphibs. Yes Mike time is going so fast it's A job keeping up with it.
Hi Mike. Found it again. I tried a lot of things including typing in 18 Coy, to no avail. To-day was the same result so I decided to type in my Coy before I went to Fremington (20 Coy Regents Park) and Low and Behold up came 18 coy with it, amazing!!! Anyway, now I can keep abreast of things going on. Hope to get over next year. Foxy.
Yes Colin, I did get very wet over the torrential rain we experienced at the open. But I thoroughly enjoyed being part of it and seeing Darren Clarke picking up the famous claret jug. The celebrities’ attending the Open was another experience for me during the week. If anyone has the opportunity to marshal at any sporting event just go and offer your services. You do get looked after by a small reward. On a different note, I have received several emails from Richard (Foxy) Fox from down under saying he cannot get on the site. For John, Can you advise on this problem? Stay well you DUKW lads the time is flying by so we will meet again for our “Last Supper”.
For Mick Ross-I watched the golf religiously over the weekend and boy I bet you got wet. I kept a look out for you but no luck. Shame the weather was bad but a very deserving winner.
Bob Rastrick. A belated Happy birthday to you,its now on my comp so ready for next year all the best see you in 2012 Pete
Thanks Taff for letting my age out but you forgot Bob Rastrick he is 72 hours older then me and you are playing catch up ha ha Thank Pete i did have a good day just a few beers as you do.
Hi Fellas. Does anyone have an e-mail address for Ray Chimes (Ding Dong) I have a photo for him and I cant pick up an address for him anywhere. Regards to all. Foxy. P.S. Ossie, we must get our heads to-gether next year, had my Daughter with me last time, so I had to be reasonably well behaved. Foxy.
As I am away at the Golf open this coming week. So I would like to wish Dave Munslow best wishes happy birthday for Monday 11th July. I do believe he will be 67. Sorry Dave they come round every year. Stay well you DUKW men; we will all be meeting next year.
Ray Sayle glad to see that have made a good recovery and yes the polo shirts & sweat shirts are still available, colour & size please. Happy birthday to Vic & Don, that Taff Ross keeps on give away all your secrets doesn't he? little devil, we will have to lethim off though otherwise he won't organise any more reunions. Ha Ha. re the request for information on Cpl Dave Peacock, I did know him and I think he,:Taffy Quail and Neville Heath? lost their lives when A LVT3 was swamped at sea also i think that Cpl Jim? Breward or similar name swam to shore with one other although my memory is not perfect on this as I may have been away. I did attend 2 military funerals. I am in cotact with Toy Baker who was on Christmas Island with Taffy Quaile and I will ask him if he has any information on Dave Peacock. For John Micheal can you let me know the availability and prices for 2 polo and 1 sweat shirt, thank you. I have recovered from my problems quite well but the osteo-arthritis wont go away! But I am coping well and looking forward to meeting everyone at the 'Last Supper'.I wish everybody all the best. Ossy boy, It was very nice to see you old mate, as you know you are always welcome and was very glad that Taffy could come over and see you also, just to give you the added surprise but the pub wants to know how long its going to be before you collect the horse you left staked out, as their getting fed up with clearing all the shite away & the vet is threatening to take legal action. ha ha ha. Seriously though, I hope you enjoyed your nostagic trip around Whitstable and hope you had some wonderful memories. All the best mate, until next time. John (Mick) Michael.
Recently I visited my old pal Mick Michaels and Gillian, who,d arranged for Taff and Joyce to be there,it,s taken a time to respond, but can I now say a big thanks to them all, it was a great surprise and time for me, and once again very comforting to have such friends to call on, best wishes,Ossy "The Old Age Traveller"

Mike. That was not me that had a little tea party but the Whitstable twinning association, of which I am a member & Gillian is the Secretary, it was very nice to see you both there, its just a shame I could not spend more time with my old mate Ossy but having German guests at the time made it a little more difficult. Not to worry mate, next time we will have a session to write home about, btw, did I tell you that I have found you a site that is great, quite close? Who nicked all the scones anyway? Take care you lads. John (Mick)
OUR CAMP The former Fremington Army Camp site has been sold, it has been announced. Fremington Developments LLP has announced it has purchased the Ministry of Defence property and Defence Estates confirmed the sale went through on December 21. The 42 acre site is allocated on the local plan for residential development. The North Devon Council plan mentions some 200 dwellings, including at least 50 affordable homes. It also refers to office and light industry plus recreation and open space and associated community facilities. A statement from the buyers said: "Fremington Developments LLP is looking forward to working with the local community through the consultation process to develop a worthwhile and considered scheme." Supporters still say that if the camp is developed, it should be affordable housing for the local young people of the area although other suggestions for the camp include using it as a countryside park, a military museum or for recovering soldiers returning from
Yesterday it was a Kent reunion. John Michael had a little tea party with lots of cakes. Who was there! our Ossy and his dog called Poppy. Both JM and Ossy are very well, and we all enjoyed our little get together in Whitstable. Stay well you DUKW Lads. We will meet again.

For Pat Scully. Great news for you all. Go off and enjoy you anniversaries we will see you all next year. There will be a new trophy for the golf on the Saturday. Give our regards to Rex, Ian and their good Ladies. Stay well you DUKW Lads. We will meet again.
Hi Taff, Have not been on the site recently as I have been organising our Big year, Penny and I are going to be 65 and it is our 40th Wedding Anniversary, Rex Ward and Ian Mackie have also been married for the same time am up so I guess we boys have staying power (or just plain daft). I am certainly up for the golf next year and could bring the throphy if you want to make it a feature of all future reunions. Stay lucky guys.
Hi Ossy boy, nice to see you can still get on the site. Give me a bell, usually the evening is the best time to catch us as you know you are always welcome here mate. Gillian doesn't want any pegs but if you have some of the carved willow flowers she will take half a dozen and a lenth of coloured silk ribon ha ha ha Take care mate & drive safely, see you soon. Regards to all the rest of you DUKW boys. John
It appears you can only post a certain amount in one message, so to carry on where I left off:- and hopefully visit John(Mick)Michaels and Gillian, see you soon Mick. John(Geordie)I have some photos I scanned at the time of the Reunion to pass onto to you belonging to Johhny Johnson who wished to have them posted on site, sorry its taken me so long will forward them ASAP, they are of his early days at Fremington. Too many names I haven,t mentioned, but regards and wishes to all of "18 AMPH" I,ll be in touch with you all at some point, the site and all who have shown their concern for my welfare, has been a great comfort to me, long may our contact last,Ossy.
Thought it was time to let all know, that I,m still about safe and well, enjoying life and my travels around the country. So far I,ve stayed on campsites, friends and family,s property and driveways, and attended rallies with my camping friends, usually very close to the nearest "PUB". A few weeks ago I visited and stayed in Rotherfied with our old mate and pal "Wicky and wife Mary" who not only fed me but also kindly did my dirty laundry items, thats friends for you, nothing was too much trouble for them, not only that somehow whilst visiting the local, I ended up in the company and buying a pint of Guinness for her, and drink for her husband, who,d already bought me one, the daughter of my 50/60s hero ELVIS PRESLEY, Lisa Marie! and actually shook hands when it was time to leave, I,m so glad I,m an "Old Age Traveller" I feel a very lucky person at this time in my life, the weather and light nights are very much a bonus also. I plan, all being well, to make my way down to Kent shortly a
For next years reunion, would you golfers like another competition. I have started to think of a programme. I am very early I know but I need the time as I shall be seventy next year like other lads I know in and around the Barnstaple area. Stay well you DUKW lads, we will meet again.
Many thanks John. I can confirm that I received the DVD OK. The photos went in the post yesterday.
Many thanks to Bill Prior, John Michael, Iain Bamber, Mike Ross and all the other kind persons who rang or sent cards on my birthday. I had a greeat days with all the children, grand children and others attending the celebrations. John, I never got really falling down drunk byt admit to having one or two to many. (you are still welcome after wickstead mate). I hope to see you all again next year. Take great care until then you DUKW lads. Tiny
Tiny: belated happy birthday mate, I hope you managed to stay upright for this momentous occasion & seeing that I am senior to you by one year I cannot have you swaying me into drunkeness on my return from Wicksteed park in June, well maybe you could with a drop of CC ha ha ha. For John Routledge, Thanks mate got my disc yesterday good stuff. Take care you DUKW lads.
Tiny, have a great birthday, congratulations to making the 70 mark, all the best Bill
Taff, I have no religious problems with Last Suppers, being one of those who fears for the church roof everytime I enter, but who will volunteer to wash whose feet on the night? Or have I missedf something here? Moving on. As a long time collector of medals, I support your feelings on the NDM. That said, our troops are now sporting a considerable array of clinking stuff nowadays - mainly UN/NATO - but even so, I'm glad I'm not in their shoes. Rather than bang on about the NDM, how about recognition for the Golden Jubilee or the one coming up in 2012 for those of us who have supported the reign and are still around? Just a thought....A belated Happy 70th Tiny - Lord love us we're all into extra time now! Keep taking the pills guys, Iain B
Last I was telephoned by a man who is pushing hard to get the National Defence Medal (NDM)for all who have served in the armd forces since 1945. New Zealand forces have now been issued as the formal approval by Her Majesty the Queen was signed a few days ago. Canada and Australia service personnel have been issued with the NDM.The question I asked, are we in the commonwealth!!!!!!. Sorry lads we have no money in this country we give so much away to other commonwealth counties.Anyway, stay well you DUKW lads, we will meet again with or without you NDM.
My research into the Last Supper is as follows: In John's Gospel, the Cambridge University is correct in saying the Last Supper was before the Passover meal. But Jesus chose to hold his Last Supper as a Passover meal according to an earlier Jewish calendar. The Last Supper was therefore on Wednesday, 1 April AD33, according to the standard Julian calendar used by historians. This was also before his crucifixion. Therefore, you DUKW men there is nothing wrong in holding our Last Supper on a Saturday Night. People have been discussing this for years, so who cares. Stay well lads, we will meet again.
It's great to see that we are still out and about. The Forum was so quietI got quite worried. For John Michael. John call in on your way back from Wickstead Park. We can do a bit of damage to my bottle of Canadian Club. It will be nice to see you and anyone else in my area. For Mike Ross. Thank you for remembering my birthday mate. And there I was thimking no one cared!!. Now I have reached the three score and ten everything else is a bonus. Stay well lads until next October at any rate.

Hello every one. Just a few comments. Delighted Ray has returned from down under. You must take it easy Ray, you are not 31 any more. There has been an earthquake in Queensland. Townsville. Do not worry Ray about seeing Richard Fox, he will be attending the "Last Supper". I was speaking to John (Geordie) Routledge the other day and he informed me that the site was being hit regularly. Over 10,000 times since the last reunion. I have started planning for our next reunion which of course is a long way off in days, but, just around the corner in months. (18). I shall after the festive season give all the details and update one and all on the admin and costing etc. I am looking at lots of ideas for this reunion as I will want to make it a success like the final fling. Whilst I am tapping the keys I would like to wish Bill Pryer a very happy birthday on Monday 18th April and also happy birthday to Alan (Tiny) Cookman on the 20th April. Best wishes you DUKW men have a good da
Hi Ray, Nice to hear from you but its a shame that your trip in Ausie went tits up mate. The answer to your question is yes shirts and other products are still readily available I believe there may be a slight increase in price since last orders but nothing too drastic. If anyone wants any items please let me know, this is good quility stuff at a good price. Ring or e-mail me. Regards to all John Michael
Sorry I have not been looking at the forum lately as I am so busy trying to organise a surprise 50th birthday party for Gillian on St Georges day, plus, I have allowed myself to get roped into organising the BSA open day rally which is to be held at Wicksteed park Kettering, if any of our motcycling fraternity wants to attend, it is on the 3rd -5th June. Now I realise how much work that young Taff has to do, organising the reunions. Stay well you boys. John Michael.
Hello all, I hope everyone is well and happy. and looking forward to 2012. I certainly am. I very nearly never made it as I had heart faliure at Yulara [Ayers Rock] and was airlifted [RFDS] to Alice Springs Hospital where I stayed for 2 weeks, while they stabilised me and I was allowed to fly home after 5 days in Perth, on my scheduled flight.thank the Lord and Barclays travel insurance!! I am well on the mend now. Also I was seconds away from A landslide between Westport and Nelson we had torrential rain for 48hrs,and I returned to Westport. All in All a different sort of holiday! I also got to drive the tour DUKW at Rotarua. So Foxy you see I would have had no chance to get to see you. Maybe another time. Nice to hear Ossie is doing well with his nomadic lifestyle, keep it up and dont forget Stratford upon Avon. John Micheal can you still get Polo shirts? Well it;s getting late so I will sign off wishing You all a Happy Easter and good health in the future,See You all 2012.
Hello Every One. Joyce and I attended the RASC/RCT WOs and SNCOs reunion in Swansea this last weekend. There were 70 sitting down to dinner on the Saturday night. It was to our surprise to see Jean and Tony Hoyland attending. Great, a DUKW man and his lady alongside Joyce and I. When I look back on our reunion, and the 168 who sat down to dinner I think that our family is well in the forefront to any reunion. As another Corps man mentioned, we were different. My comment was, yes, we were DUKW men and proud of it. Stay well you DUKW men, we will meet again in 2012.
for dan chandler happy birthday
I had a phone call from Ray Sayle whilst he was visiting Aussie. It was great to hear from him. I tried to get him down here to Tasmania for a visit but I think his schedule was a bit tight. Hope he makes it to 2012 do, its a bit far for me unless I am holidaying that way. Good to see your still traveling Ossie. For Ray Chimes my No 1. Hope you and your good lady are well mate, Yvette still talks about you both and I am sure would love to hear from you sometime. All the best to the rest of you lads, and good luck mike to he "last supper" Foxy.
Just spent an afternoon near Torrax with Evan (Scouse) and Celia Lewis. Good company and a great chinwag. We all said who would have thought at Fremington in the 60's we would be doing this. Isn't it a wonderful world?
Just popped in & seen Bob Rand while I was in Ashford visiting my son, he is o.k. & has just returned from Ausie land. He said he had posted something on the site but I could not find it but anyway he gave me the message for Ossy, he said he doesn't want any plastic flowers just a dozen clothes pegs, ha ha ha, well done Ossy lad your fame has reached Ashford. I have to visit Devon tomorrow to pick up a bike for my old mate, shame I won't be able to see anyone. Kindest regards John Michael
Had a phone call from Ossy a couple of days ago.The only trouble was I was out so the wife took the call so I only got half the message. Anyway he is going to ring back but everything is fine with him.Battery powered camper van not too good for his computer. Bill Dearnley
To Slim Wakeford happy birthday for the 10th Have a great day. Hope to see you Oct 2012 Pete

My golf Captaincy has ended and during the last social event I managed to raise another £225 for the Little Bridge Hospice in Fremington. I am now looking forward to raising a few more pounds during the "Last Supper" next year. Stay well you DUKE Lads, we will meet again
It seems not all of my message got through,it carried on, reminisce our "YOUTH" from where I joined the Army as a Junior Leader in 1959!Cheers Georgie and Bob Mac for your postings, will be meeting up with you again in the not too distant future, thanks Taff for your email and have a good holiday,to everyone else, till the next time, best wishes, Ossy.
Hi all, I really apologise for being AWOL, let me first say that I.m fine and in good health and loving my now, life style, I seemed to have done it at a time when I was so involved and committed and unable to respond, the weather didn,t help either! It,s been very pleasing to know so many of you were concerned for my welfare and I,m eternally grateful. Things are now gradually coming into order I promise, one thing is for certain God willing I,ll be at "The Last Supper"! I will respond to my Lifelong friends Ray, Don and Sam (Dearnley) personally ASAP, many thanks for your emails, I haven,t forgot you. I,ve been in quite regular contact with Danny Chandler on SKYPE and would welcome any other invitations when I,m online, the only other thing to say for now is, as Taff says dont be surprised if you get a knock on the door, I,m certainly going to do it to Mick Michaels sometime in May hopefully when me and my brother David will be visiting Whitstable in my motorhome to reminisce our "Y
I recieved my Waggoner news letter this morning. The farewell to Buller Barracks in now Imminent. Many of us served at Buller in the sixties and seventies but I sorry to repot that God's Acre will be subject to the to the bulldozers in the redevelopment of the site in 2012. Also in the news letter editor recorded the passing of Tom Tully and Bob Card. They both served as junior soldiers before arriving in Fremington Camp. I would not worry over Ossy, as he will be safe and sound in his new camper. Anyway, he may even knock on your door some day. Stay well you DUKW Lads. We will meet again.
Spoke to Ossy tonight, alls well, but had considerable adjustment to make over last months. More info below from Bobmac. I will keep in touch with him from now on.
seen ossy about two weeks ago at his sister inlaws funeral hes been staying at minehead somerset most of the time with his camper mates.but he got snowed in on the bad weather it was a pub so i dont think he was worried I think he was having trouble with his internet conection.Iwill let you know if i have anymore info bobmac
No contact from Ossy yet, but I left him a message on his E-mail. I do not have a contact for his daughter either. Maybe Don Turner has news?? Or anybody from Barnstaple? Maybe he has gone south for some sunshine.
Bill they don't strip down old cars now, they just take them to the scrappy & get £350 for them, which I feel sure Ossy would know, after all it was him & I that did that sort of thing in the late sixties. Quite correct though Bill put me down for two dozen pegs when he gets here. George, Are you in contact with his daughter? As she may know where he is at the moment. Reargards John
Quite right John, no word from Ossy for a while so I will try and contact him.
Now he's travelling the roads he might have turned into a pikey staying on a travellers site tarmacing drives and stripping down old cars. All the best ossy put me down for a few clothes pegs and a bunch of plastic flowers. Bill D
Well, this web site seems a little bit quiet at the moment, so where is our intrepid traveler Ossy Osbourne at the the moment? Is he winging his way around the country yet in his mobile home? Or is he still trying to find the layout of his mobile home? Will someone tell him the steering wheel is at front please. I hope all you DUKW lads are still in good health. Kind regards John Michael
Joyce and I are attending the RASC/RCT reunion in Swansea Welsh Wales on 2nd April. Anyone else attending. Stay well you DUKW Lads. WE will meet again.
For Colin Proffit. Colin, I have just read your request to sit on the 'Top Table' at the last supper and your reasons for this. I would strongly caution against this. The last person with the initials JC didn't last very long after that last supper. No Mate, you stay with the rest of us Mortals. Danny Chandler and I aare quite happy in your company unless, of course, it was some6thing we said.
Hi dont know if i am putting this in the right place but i cant find anywhere else to put it[no comments please i know what you rct boys are like] I just wanted to say hello to all the great lads i met in Cyprus 1969 I was in the HQ office unficyps Nicosia as the Forces Postman. My billet was directly opposite the Wheel Em In Club which i used to frequent often. Although i was Royal Artillery i played rugby for 18 rct. i can remember lots of faces but not many names, some of them were lt Steele who had a twin brother in the RA who i also played rugby with for the Gunners. lcpl Mcgrath, cpl Mccormack, lcpl Rolls, cpl Walkington, cpl Roach. Had a great time with you lads hope your all well. Brian [JOHNO]
Thanks for those kind words Mike, but my initials are JC so take it from there. Hope you and Joyce are keeping well - no golg this weather?
Very good Colin. You can sit on the the Top Table so long as your not "Profit Mohammed". Stay well you DUKW Lads, we will meet again.
First I would like to say sorry to hear about Tom Tully, over the years we had our differences but he was a very good soldier and we we went back a long way. RIP Tom. I would like to, on behalf of Barbara and myself to wish you all A Very Happy New Year. Because the next re-union is called the "LAST SUPPER" and I am a "PROFIT" does it mean I can sit on the "TOP TABLE"????
Thanks for the info boys sorted Bill Dearnley
Made contact with Lt Col David Pepperel. The letter in question is on its way to him. Jack Lambie please contact me on the land line. David Pepperell would like to contact you. I can not display home information on our guest book. Stay well you DUKW Lads. We will meet again.
Hi Bill, Read you message about the Lieutenant that you are trying to trace. I've had a quick trawl around the family history sites that I am a member of and came up with the following-: A Maj D G Pepperell belonged to the 'Movement Control Officers Club' based at Buller Barracks and is mentioned in their bullitin No 290, dated March 1976. This club has now been superceded by a new organisation that is still currently active. Go to the Movement Control Organisation at the following website. www.movcon.org.uk. Hope this helps to find him. Happy New Year!
Hi Bill. Contact me and I will give what I think will be the contact number of Lt Col David Pepperall. Stay well you DUKW Lads, We will meet again>
Would like to wish all users and readers of the site a happy, healthy and a safe new year. I was sorry I missed the reunion but I had family problems up in Corby.I am seeking some infomation on a Lt.D.G.Popperell or Pipperell who was at Fremington around 1967.The reason I would like to contact him is because when the civilian staff were clearing out an office by the old REME workshops they found a letter belonging to him.So it was given to me to see if I could return it to him.Would be grateful for any info.Sorry I haven,t been in touch Ossy will Email you later. Bill Dearnley
Just thought that I would take the opportunity to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I enjoyed 'Final Fling' immensely. Very much a case of Deja Vu so to speak. I've pulled out the short straw today and find myself manning the Selby Swing Bridge. But I'm glad to say that there is nothing on the river and very little on the roads, so I've got my feet up. Keep well everybody and I hope to see you all again at the 'Last Supper'.
Sorry its late, just finished work!!!!!!, we would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and prosperous 2011, looking forward very much to the "Last Supper"All the best Bill and Michelle
Thank you all who has sent me birthday greetings. Also, Joyce & I would like to thank you for all for all the Christmas cards you have sent us. Thank you Ozzy for your last entry. He was known to us all in our Amph days. He later became my RSM when I was SSM 1Sqn and thats when his problems all started. However, I could not fault the man, well turned out and switched on. Could speak on all subjects, and never saw you without a glass of beer. he did me proud while we served in 3Div. RIP Tom.
Wishes to one and all, will be writing more, later! For now though wanted to let everyone know and I dont know any other details, I,ve been informed of the passing of Tom Tully another of our comrades from 18 Coy before and after, Tom obviously had his problems in the twilight of his life, however I will always remember him as a lifelong friend and mate, along with all those gone before him, RIP old pal, Ossy.

Well you DUKW Lads, I have some good news for you. "The Last Supper" will take place at the Barnstaple Hotel on the 19th 20th and 21st October 2012. I have received confirmation of the dates from the New Manager (Martyn) of the Hotel. There will be more details but at this stage it is only for your forwards in the 2011 diary. May I once again thank everyone for your cards, letters and emails thanking me for the "Final Fling". The "Last Supper" could be a great get together but it would be hard to follow the last reunion. However, who knows, if we have an outstanding attendance it can be very enjoyable. Information: Check out in the "Latest News" with reference to Bob Card. May I wish all you DUKW Lads, your Ladies and families a very Merry Christmas and a very Happy, Healthy and prosperous 2011. For the Welsh speaking: Nadolig Llawau a Blwyddyn Newydd Dda. Stay well You DUKW Lads, We will meet again!.
It is that time of year once again in which cards and good wishes are exchanged Due to the rising costs of postage and the inability to find "Real" christmas cards (Nativity scenes etc) I have decided to send my good wishes for Christmas and the New Year in this e mail. Kate and I hope that you will always have a penny in your pocket, a warm meal in your belly and may all the roads you travel be short ones. May you all be in heaven half an hour before the Devil knows you are gone. Merry Christmas Lads and stay well. Tiny
For Ray Sayle. Hope you have a great time at "Darling Harbour" Ray. If you can manage a quick trip to Tasmania there is a bed here and you would be very welcome. Foxy.

This is not an AMPH matter. I have been emailed today to inform me that Lt Col (Retd) John Atkinson died on Saturday last. Many of us would have served with John and it very sad for me at this time, as I was presented with his pace stick which I carried very proudly while as the SSM and RSM. Stay well you DUKW Lads. "We will meet again"!
Recieved an email from the Barnstaple Hotel yesterday and I have the rates for us if we wish to hold the "Last Supper" in October 2011. The rates are: 1 night double:£126. Single:£84.2 nights double £115.50. Single £78.75. 3 nights £105 double £105. Single £73.50. THis includes dinner and breakfast per room per night. The date I requested is unfortunately full. However, I am in the process of speaking to Martyn the new manager at the Hotel. A little info. I managed another £400 for the Little Bridge House Hospice at Fremington. The money came from my Captains raffle at my golf club. Stay well you DUKW Lads. "We will Meet again"!
Hi Mike "et al" Oh dear!!! I shall have to start saving my pennies. Foxy.
Well done Mike, I'm so glad your organising another one. I think that everyone will agree that the last one, could not be beaten, so the challenge is on to try & better it. I'm all for it. I posted this yesterday but it never managed to reach the board, lost in cyberspace I guess. Kind regards John
For Mike Ross I am so glad that you have decided on another reunion in 2012. My bank balance has just increased with the money won on bets that you would be organising another one within 2 months. Give me a ring some time so we can speak. Well done mate. Tiny Cookman
There will be another reunion in 2012. We must use our ties, polo shirts, and others bits to the full. We have them, must use them. The next reunion will be called the "Last Supper". Possible October 2012. Stay well you DUKW Lads.

I,m sorry I,ve not been in contact of late, Ive been otherwise engaged, I,m now living in my new Motorhome ready to travel the country. When all is stable and my routine settles down, I have many photos to pass on, from the long past of other comrades (Johnny Johnson) and from our wonderful reunion! I,m using Mobile Broadband and it seems to work fine the few places I,ve travelled to, so far, long may it last! Thanks to you all, for being such good mates, over the years, it was a pleasure to be in your company at the "Reunion", I loved it and didn,t mind a stitch walking home on my own, in the early hours of the morning (Five nights) on the trot, save when my old mate Johnny Greenaway made sure I was safe and sound? It was an Honour and Priviledge to be in your company, and I will be taking up the offer from many of you to stay on your drives and property in my travels, cheers to you all, till the next time, Ossy.

This will be my last entry. Red Light, Green Light, I am off to London today to re-produce the "Staff List" and programme for our visit to Instow. The weather for Saturday is looking good with no wind and sunny spells. Stay well you DUKW Lads.
I have received a number of requests asking for a list of attendees at our next reunion. After many years, I was really looking forward to meeting up once again with Bob and Carol, as I knew they were planning to attend our Reunion, somehow our paths never crossed, in the later years. However I recall them both from my early years, Bob as a Junior Leader and as one of the Motorcycle boys at Fremington, along with ( Swede Read, Johhnie Liddell, Johnnie Clover, Wicky wickenden, my mate Georgie Webb and not forgetting Terry Coleman on his Lambretta, or was it a Vespa?) and Carol when she worked at Mary,s Cafe in the village, is it really that long ago? Sadly now, it wont happen, so I pass on my condolences, to Carol and her family, with the deepest respect, Ossy.
My sincere condolences to Dave Pedders wife Lee and to Carol Card on their sad loss. Rest in peace lads I'll raise a glass to you both.
Sorry, this is not good news for 18 Coy/Sqn Lads. I have to report with sadness the passing of Bob Card. I have been in touch with Carol and she has given me permission to publish his passing. Bob died on 8th September after several months of fighting Pancreatic Cancer. Bob died at home with Carol, Karen and Debbie by his side. Please do NOT call the house at this time. All contact is via Mike. Bob's funeral will be held today which is private. This was the wish of Bob himself. R.I.P Bob, we shall all miss you during our reunion.
Just 25 days to the start of the reunion the 14th October 2010. The good news is that we have 160 booked into the Hotel for dinner on Saturday night. Just one room left for the Saturday night. There are 105 accommodated and 55 booked for the dinner. Having giving you this information, there are 21 people I know may attend the dinner as they attended the 2007 reunion. The word of mouth, the telephone and emails will help to prompt people who have not booked. I would not want anyone to miss the "Final Fling". I shall be in the Barnstaple Hotel on Wednesday 13th October at 1500hrs. Stay well you DUKW LADS.
Prior to my previous message, I wanted to let you all know that I had contact and a long chat, with Pete Walkington, Through the SKYPE connection, so there shouldn,t be any problem for those wishing to contact Pete, before or around the time of the Reunion, regards, Ossy.
One of the first, to greet our group on joining 18 Amph at Femington Station, Dec 1960, was Dave Peddar along with the likes of Slim Wakeford, John Greenaway etc, playing a practical joke on us by wearing, Sgts and Cpls BD jackets, giving us a bit of stick as we carried our Kitbags and belongings, over the Railway bridge and trundled up the hill and path to the rear entrance of Fremington camp, and the laugh they got out of us, when we realised on finding our billets, they were Dvrs and therefore, same rank as us, I,ve never forgot that day, so I,m very saddened to learn of Dave,s passing and wish my condolences to be passed onto his family, cheers old pal, have one waiting on the bar for me (Best Bitter) for when I join you! Ossy.
I was saddened to learn of the passing of Dave Pedder. Another of the old and bold has left us so close to our reunion. I would like to pass on my condolences to Dave's family at this time. Goodbye old mate, it was nice to have known you. Rest in Peace.
This is sad news. My wife (Joyce) was called this morning as I was out playing golf. On return she informed me that Dave Pedder had died yesterday. I have been in contact with Lee his wife and I have obtained her permission to publish his passing. I add been in contact with Dave many times over the last six weeks, and he informed me that his new pace- maker was doing good. However, not so good during this last week or so. RIP Dave, we will remember you at the reunion. Stay well you DUKW Lads.
I,ll be there Taff, no matter how many pints the night before, (Only Joking), Ossy
Today I received some information with regard to the programme for our visits to Instow and Fremington Camp. The Instow visit will commence early, like! 0915hrs. Therefore, I am proposing to RV all who wish to visit at 0830hrs mounting up by 0840hrs, with all through the start point by 0850hrs. No recovery needed, because of AA & RAC back up. All WKSP personnel are stood down for this movement. ETA at Fremington Camp at 1330hrs to 1400hrs. Note, this is only an outline. More details to follow. Stay well you DUKW Lads. See you all four (4) weeks today.
Well! What do I say, we are increasing in numbers very quickly now. As I type this information there are 152 booked for dinner on the Saturday night. Having spoken too many of the Lads who have not booked in as yet, I am sure we will be close to 165/170. So stay well you DUKW Lads, or should I say the Amphibious Band of Brothers. Now that's POSH!
Well, we are in!!!! I have spoken to security today and we will be visiting Fremington Camp. Timings will be in conjunction with the programme I receive from Instow. We are waiting to finalise the programme because of tides etc. Therefore, we may be visiting Fremington Camp in the morning. We are now 144 booked in for dinner on Saturday 16th October. When you have booked in from now until the 13th October, would you let me know by email or even a quick call. As we get closer to our dates, it will become a little difficult for me to keep tabs on the numbers for dinner and also our visits. Stay well you DUKW Lads
Well. It's the 12th September and I have some news for you. The Barnstaple Hotel has sent me a return and it reads as follows: 93 people are accommodated on the 16th October (Dinner Night) and 46 others will be joining then for dinner also. That gives a total of 139 to date. There will be I am sure others joining the happy 139 for dinner on the night. I am 7 off the target of 2007 numbers. More news to follow tomorrow evening. Stay well you DUKW Lads.
Hi Guys, When I came across this web site I saw a posting regarding a "Fred Hammond" who had passed away. Could you provide me with some information about this man as this was my Dad's name also. He too served in the RASC in Singapore amongst other places. Cheers Clive
Today, I was contacted by the MOD Sales to inform me that the MOD has accepted the bid for the sale of Fremington Camp. However, the contracts will take time to exchange. The good news is I have been given permission to visit the Fremington Camp if it is still owed by the MOD. If it is not, I shall have to proceed with cap in hand to the new owners and ask permission to enter on the 15th October. I have informed the MOD Sales that our "Final Fling" is one of the biggest reunions within the services. We are a very close family of service people who care for one another. We are if you like, the Amphibious Band of Brothers. The visit to Instow will be displayed shortly. Stay well you DUKW Lad's, see you all in five (5) weeks.
Hi Taff, I only have a small car, carries one driver and three passengers, nice and comfy though, if I can be of any use for the Instow visit it would be my privilege and pleasure,to help out, for anyone without transport, regards , Ossy.
I was contacted tonight by Alan Davey ex "B" Troop. He and his wife Angela are well and have enjoyed their holiday in Canada. They are now back in DUKW country, and are booking in for the reunion dinner. For Pete : Many thanks Pete for the offer of many seats for the visit to Instow on Friday 15th October. Stay well you DUKW Lads.
Yesterday I was contacted by Instow. The programme for the visit will be published in about two weeks. Depending on our numbers I may have to have two groups following one another. (Because of the staff and room) However, I shall assess numbers on the Friday morning when we meet up. All timings and real admin will follow at the time of the programme being displayed. This of course will include the security. I cannot confirm the visit to Fremington Camp as yet. But I am working on the event. Stay well you DUKW Lads.
For Pete Walkington, Pete sorry to hear you cant make it for the re-union, Iwas really looking forward to catching up, once I get Skype set up again I will give you a bell. Take care mate hopefully speak to you soon. Bill
Sorry you cant make it Pete, was really looking forward to meeting up with you once again after all these years at one of the other reunions, hope your concerns become stable and resolve their selves, best wishes to you and yours, Ossy! Ps I,m on Skype under Peter David Osborne, will try to call you sometime, and try to look you up!

For Pete Walkington And anyone else with skype who will not be attending the reunion, I will have my laptop in attendance I am sure there will be others who will take there laptops with them please make contact via skype before the event so that we can set our computers up. My skype address is Geordie-routledge, for those who don't have skype its free to download and also free to make video calls to anyone in the world and easy to set up. Geordie
Firstly, great to see Viv Pugh come and comment on the site. Viv was the "Clerk Clerk during the very early sixties. He may even have been there before that. Great news, I hope he will come along and meet some of the "old and bold" of the unit. I for one would like to meet up with you, the door is open. For Peter Walkington: Peter sorry you cannot make it. But I for one understand the reason. That link you spoke about would be nice. I do not have a lap top myself, but I am sure someone will take on the task. A link up on Saturday afternoon around 1530hrs would suit all. "Just after the afternoon nap"! Stay well you DUKW lads.
I´ve just had another thought, I´m on that SKYPE thing so if anyone brings a laptop with them we can talk that way. My call sign is Peterpiper 90
Hi all, bad news(well it is for me anyway) due to a few problems I shall not now be able to attend the reunion. I had hoped to overcome these problems but it seems that I can´t. AS you can imagine it is a bitter blow for me, but as they say I´ll just have to grin and bear it. I had a thought that maybe one of those ex REME whiz kids could set up a video link for all us absentees or something like that. anyway Lads I shall have an extra pint on the night and dress up in my 18 sqn/coy tie etc. Think of me
As you may know, I have organized a game of golf for Saturday 16th October at the Portmore Golf Club on the Barum 18 hole course. The trophy is the "Final Fling" trophy which has been engraved and I intend to have the trophy presented at the dinner. Bob Mac is my contact on this venue so I shall need to confirm numbers with him so that the tee off times can be established with the club. Therefore, can everyone who wishes to play in the golf game on Saturday contact me either by land line, email or semaphore. I intention is to play low, medium and high handicaps as one group. FOUND: This evening I made contact with Jock Robertson of the Regimental Workshop. Jock served in Fremington Camp from 1960/1964 and was then posted to Aden. He will be attending the reunion. Anyone wishing to contact Jock, via me please. I have no other news today, only that I shall be in the Barnstaple Hotel seven weeks today. Stay well you DUKW LADS. See you soon.
Well it's sad news, and good news. Fremington Camp as not been sold as yet. However, It is now off the market as it has passed the closing date. The MOD is now considering the offers made before the closing date. I shall not give up on this visit. Even if it is sold, the planning time etc, etc, will take longer than 7 weeks. It will mean I shall have to go cap in hand to the buyer or buyers. The only way I shall give up is that their slam the door in my face. Stay well you DUKW Lads. Remember we are all on the same side.
Many thanks John for correcting my details, the first or last pint will be on me, in October, regards,Ossy!

John and Mike. The new site is great and in some cases better than the old one. Stay well evryone. Not long until the middle of October.
Hi Terry: Yes,all Ladies are most welcome to attend Instow. Fremington is not confirmed as yet. (Wait-out!) The name stickers will be available for you to write your own name. Stay well you DUKW Lads. Just 35!!!!!!
Mike, just a few queries on top of all the hard work that you are putting in. [Many, many, thanks by the way] With regards doubling up on vehicles. I can take two extra in my car, no problem. Are there going to be any name stickers for our good ladies? My Susan has never been to Fremington or Instow and as I have bored her to tears with all my tales of the place, she would very much like to be included in the party to tour both camps. Is this possible? She has her pin and fleece at the ready!
